The Tekamah Carnegie Public Library serves the residents of the area by providing materials and service to enable them to obtain information needed for their informational, educational, recreational, and cultural interest in a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

 History
On October 13, 1914, the first board of directors of the Tekamah Public Library met with the mayor of Tekamah. The group agreed to accept for the city of Tekamah a donation of 8,000 dollars from the Carnegie Corporation with the provisions that the city would support a free public library at a cost of 800 dollars a year and provide a suitable site for the building. The Micheal Property near the City Hall Bridge was purchased for this purpose. Mister R.W. Grant of Beatrice was selected as the architext and mr. L.G. Wood of Tekamah was given the contract of building on August 31, 1915. The building was open for public service on October 28, 1916.

  Staff

Terri Donnelly is our current children's librarian. Before she came here, she was at the County Attorney's Office for 14 years. She's has been a great asset to our team and will hit her one year mark in August of 2008.
Favorite thing about work-"I just love being able to read and work with the kids."
Favorite memory-"There are so many, but probably geo-cashing and my get-well card from the kids."

Lauren Delley is our fun loving librarian who likes to vacation in Oregon. She is a student at the Tekamah-Herman High School and has been with us for a little over a year now.
Favorite thing about work-"I learn a lot of things from the books."
Favorite memory-"On the first day of work, I fell down the stairs!"

Joyce Grass is one of our head librarians. Her first job was here in the 50's under Mrs. Wilson. Then she moved down the street to the elementary library at the public school where she work hard for 34 years. She is currently back home at our beautiful library and has been for 4 years. When asked how she felt about being back here at the library, her answer was an expected one. "This is definitely less stressful!"
Favorite thing about work-"Everything! I love everything thing about it, except for the reports."
Favorite memory-"There are oodles of 'em, but I would have to say that getting the grant for the Teen Text room was definetly one of the highlights."
