Beaver Mural Window

<<Back to Photo Gallery Next>>
Listen to Description

This window is a painting of a beaver, which was often noted in the Lewis & Clark journals. On Clark's 34th birthday, August 1, 1804, it was written that a beaver tail was part of his birthday meal. In the background there is a single mound with wildflowers scattered about it. This represents Sergeant Charles Floyd's grave, who was the only member of the Corps to die on the journey. The grave is located near present day Sioux City.
