Goals of the Lewis & Clark Mural

mural

The mural that is being hand painted on the outside wall of Tekamah's VFW building will depict the journey of Lewis & Clark through the community during the 1804 Lewis & Clark expedition. There are many goals of this project, but the main one is to show Tekamah's connection with Lewis & Clark and to help put Tekamah on the map as an important part of the national Lewis & Clark Expedition celebration. It will also serve as an aid in educating the local citizens, school children, and those traveling the same route that Lewis & Clark made throughout the area in 1804. The mural will include those things that were listed in the journals of Lewis & Clark that are unique to the Tekamah area.

Tekamah will also be celebrating its l50th birthday around the same time as the Lewis & Clark celebration, and we hope that the mural will help people to understand what the town's last 150 years have been like, and the vital role that Lewis & Clark played in those 150 years.
