Community Involvement The mural on the VFW wall at the corner of 13th and L has involved many of the fine citizens and businesses of Tekamah. The project is being financed by a grant from The Nebraska Arts Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in the state. The primary coat of paint used in the background of the map was done by 2 Guys Painting Service. Tekamah native Lisa Glup will be doing the rest of the mural as well as the trading post (fireworks stand) and windows of the VFW. Lisa has plans for different scenes in each of the 12 windows. Citizens of all ages helped put the undercoat on the trading post. The Tekamah Garden Club will be involved in landscaping the area along with the community's help. Donated whiskey barrels will be used as planters to exhibit native plants Lewis and Clark found in the area during their journey. Three students from Tekamah-Herman High School are very involved in the Lewis & Clark experience. Linda Farrens' E-Projects class has not only put together this website, but also took all necessary pictures, interviewed many people, and compiled all the information that was needed to develop this site.
